FROM FAIRGROUNDS TO CYBERSPACE

From fairgrounds to cyberspace, with other prestigious stops along the way, sums up how far the art of TLC staffer, Susan Knaap, has come.

Vein of Gold I

Vein of Gold II

Susan has had a love of painting since childhood and after several years in the counseling/social work fields decided to commit to creativity by enrolling in TLC’s Diploma programme. Both strands have now woven together with her Guidance and extramural-Tutor roles at TLC, accompanying her journey as a painter.

Recognising early on that art needs an audience, Susan braved mosquitoes, sunburn and rain to put her work 'out there' at fairs and hung paintings in enthusiastic but under-populated cafes.

Feedback indicated that more professional venues might be appropriate and this led her to combine ancient arts with modern outlets on the internet.

Susan engaged a Christchurch webmaster to establish a website which acts as a kind of dynamic 'portfolio', and includes a personal profile as well as a selection of works.

Susan also features on www.artfind.co.nz – the number one art website in NZ (hit-wise) - making it an effective tool from a marketing point of view.

However, the traditional locations continue to provide a platform. The NZ Academy of Fine Arts in Wellington sold both of Susan’s entries (shown at right) in their recent "Absolutely Brilliant" exhibition – a title which aptly reflects the work in progress that is her career.
