HUTT ARTISTS EXHIBIT DIVERSITY OF TALENT
(Sited in The Hutt News, 12 April 2005)
Four Lower Hutt artists are among 12 painters, ceramicists and glass and mosaic artists currently exhibiting at the Academy Galleries in Wellington.
(Excerpt):
Susan Knaap, an artist of Dutch descent lives in Stokes Valley. Her current exhibition as part of Solo 20 is entitled Scene and Un-Scene. A play on words, the paintings on display depict "what's seen with the eyes as well as what is imagined."
Susan Knaap works at the Learning Connexion in Island Bay in the area of student support. By and large self-taught, she was encouraged to paint as a child and began selling her works in her late teens. A strong focus on career pulled her away from art before she began painting again in the early 1990's. Last year, Susan was a finalist in the 2004 International Juried Symbolist Online Art Show and invited to exhibit at the prestigious Florence Biennale in December 2005.
